Stamens and a jewel clip

If anything stands out about the bunch of lilies pictured below, it is the large dark coloured stamens. These are worth seeing under the stereo microscope. There is a handy tool to enable this.

It is a piece of equipment that you can attach to a Motic stereo microscope. It is a so called jewel clip, simple but effective for viewing and photographing all kinds of small objects from all sides.

The illumination of the object is very critical here. LED fiber optic point illumination at low light strength is used to photograph the stamens. Indirect illumination is needed with shiny objects such as minerals and gemstones. The room in which the microscope is located has been darkened. This creates a darkfield effect.

The Moticam Pro S5 Plus camera has no problem with low light conditions due to its high light sensitivity. The resolving power of this camera is strong enough to clearly display the pollen under low light conditions, which are necessary to not overexpose certain areas of the object.
